The important step was made in 1954, when Valsangiacomo began to work its proper vineyards, this as the first wine dealer in Ticino. Since then production has been increased constantly and many wines of excellent quality have been added to the vast range of products. 90’000 vines grow on 16 acres in the vineyards of Morbio Inferiore, Castel San Pietro, Vacallo and Pedrinate. Additionally, viticulturists from throughout the whole Mendrisiotto deliver their outstanding grapes to make up for the total need of production. The crop is limited and constantly controlled by the winemakers to grant excellent grapes, the basis for the quality wines made in Chiasso. The cellar in Mendrisio was built in the natural rock of Monte Generoso durring the last century and is today the ideal storage for barriques and bottles. Also the sparkling Merlot is produced in the cellars in Mendrisio, following the classic method.

In 1902 Valsangiacom won their first Gold medal during the international exhibition in Paris. Up today many Gold, Silver and Bronze medal were won during exhibitions and competitions. The “Ariete” was recognised from O.I.V. as the best Swiss red wine in 1975. New creations such as Rubro, Don Giovanni and Cuvée Speciale achieved Gold and Silver during the competition arranged by the Swiss Winedealers for the festivities of 700th anniversary of Helvetic Confederation.
177 years of family tradition and also the sixth generation creates modern wines. An enterprise rich in tradition but nevertheless ready to take on the spirit and the competition of Modern Times. |
