The Mendrisiotto is the most southern part of Switzerland. Two big lakes, Lago di Lugano (Ceresio) and Lago di Como (Lario) grant an almost mediterranean climate. The vineyards are protected by two important mountains, Monte Generoso and Monte San Giorgio. The Monte Generoso is the only mountain, where alpine as well as mediterranean Flora can be found. The chalky rock is the ideal soil for the vineyards in Morbio and Castel San Pietro and also for the cellars in the natural rock in Mendrisio. |

The Cantone Ticino
| The Monte San Giorgio was one of the first heights after the waters of the Sea went back. Important discoveries of fossils and marble are its witness and excellent soil for important wines. |
